Evie's playing softball this year for the first time. No, not t-ball... softball. Coach pitch softball. As the cutoff was 2004, and Evie's a December 2004 baby, I'm fairly certain she's the youngest on the team. Maybe in the league. We were a little nervous, but so far she's been doing pretty well. She's great at fielding grounders, she can throw (sort of), she can hit the ball when she's not too nervous, but she's a bit scared of fly balls. Actually, this describes her whole team, so, yeah, she's doing pretty well. There have been two games this week, and the Pink Diamonds got pounded at both. Looks like we're gonna be the weakest team. But I think they're at least having fun, which is truly what it's all about.
Getting ready for the game last night. Which started over an hour late due to an umpire who never, ever showed. It seems that there's a slight lack of organization around here when it comes to softball, at least. See the team playing behind her?? They've got the exact same color jerseys as the Pink Diamonds. And black shorts and pink socks. We played them on Tuesday, and it was chaos! There might be a letter written to the YMCA before the end of all this. Anyway, we were up there until 9:30 last night playing ball! Thank goodness it was Friday...
Evie got to "play" second base last night. I use the word "play" loosely, because Evie was more interested in the dirt than the ball. *sigh* In fact, a ball went right past her once while she had her glove off dumping dirt out of it. Totally oblivious to what was going on. Praise God she didn't get smacked in the head with the ball. Fortunately (or unfortunately??), she's not the only 6-year-old dirt-digger on the team. But at least they're cute doing it.
