John's surgery went great, praise God. We got up at 3 am and made it to Plano at 4:30. People aren't supposed to be up at that hour of the day. Anyway, we were headed back to Greenville at 7:45. Not bad. John can already see really well. He says it's a little hazy, but it seems to be getting better. He has to put drops in his eyes every 15 minutes. We can't have fans going so his eyes won't dry out. He has to wear sunglasses to keep wind or debris from blowing in his eyes. And he has to wear funky covers over his eyes when he sleep to keep his eyes protected. John said the experience was a little freaky and not for the faint hearted. Thankfully I have great vision. I wouldn't make it through what he described to me! Ick. Anyway, he goes back tomorrow for a follow-up. At this point, everything seems to be going just fine.
However, Smokey, the sweet cat we've had for 9 years, has been sick. I took her in yesterday and we found out she has feline leukemia. She's doing pretty bad now. I can't get her to eat anything, and she's getting pretty weak. I hate to do it, but I'm pretty sure we'll have to put her to sleep in the next few days. She's been sch a good cat. It's breaking my heart, but I know she's not doing good. I've been praying for her and for the kids to be able to accept and understand what's going on. They know Smokey's sick, but they don't realize that she's going to die soon. What a life lesson.

We are so happy that John's lasik went well! I prayed for him this morning (even though it was well after you guys were done! :)
I'm so sorry about Smokey :( It's so hard to see animals sick like that when they can't really communicate with you... I will be praying that this experience will be an opportunity for you to teach the kiddos, and that they don't take it too hard... and that you are ok, too. Cats can be great friends, as pesky as they might be :) I'm glad you got to share such a long time with Smokey! Let me know if we need to watch the kids for you or something.
I was wondering about John's surgery. I sent you a couple of text messages, but apparently YOU DON'T LOOK AT YOUR PHONE MUCH!! LOL. Deb thought the surgery was next month, so there was confusion on my part about it all. Like usual. Glad to hear he's doing ok. Can he watch fireworks this weekend? Hate to go without him. Hee hee. Smokey the cat is sad news. Is that the one that rubs her mouth on me all the time or the one that got too fat to lick herself when you lived in the apartment? Hey, um. I happen to know of a couple of cats that need another home. wink, wink. Let you have 'em cheap. See you guys tomorrow.
Tara, I'm so sorry to hear about Smokey. It's a tough decision to make. :(
