The girls and I were outside enjoying the cool weather this morning when Evie announced that she was thirsty. After she stated, "I'm thirsty!" for the fifth-or-so time in a row, I realized she was doing so for my benefit, hoping I would go inside and get her a cup of water. She's 4-and-a-half and quite capable of chosing a clean cup out of the dishwasher and filling it with cold, filtered water from inside the fridge door. I reminded her of this fact, so she took off inside to get her own drink. After a few minutes, Evie came trotting back out to the back yard with a big smile on her face. I didn't think much about it. I just thought she was happy to be un-thirsty. She said, "I didn't want to take too long. So I put my mouth up to the place where the water comes out, and I pushed the button! And water came out into my mouth!" She was so proud of herself for saving time. When my eyes widened, she justified herself again. "I just didn't want to take too long getting a drink." I was pretty unsuccessful at hiding my chuckles, because I made Evie giggle. "Hee hee. It was pretty funny. Hee hee hee!" Good thing she's not sick anymore! And hopefully that's the first and last time that happens. Something tells me it's not...
